[Korea] Choeunsook Gallery

May 21, 2024 by JOO

Today I’d like to introduce one of my favorite art and life style shops in Seoul, Korea. Choeunsook (Cho-Eun -Sook is the name of CEO) gallery is located in the middle of Cheongdam district, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Seoul. This is the gallery where you can find many modern art works and hand crafts of contemporary Korean artists.

Korean lacquer on metal

I adore Korean lacquered arts

This small table is called So-Ban. So-Ban is a traditional table that was used in the ancient time in Korea. At that time, there was no concept of chairs or tables. People gathered around so-ban and sat on the floor to have a meal. Usually, there were different sobans for male, female and servants.

Dosirak (lunchbox) exhibition 2016

Choeunsook gallery exhibits very interesting art works ranging from 2D paintings to installation arts, dinnerware, lighting and Korean lacquered products. During Dosirak exhibitions you can see many creative and unique hand made lunch boxes by different Korean artists. The third Dosirak exhibition is currently showing until next month (May 11th, 2017 - June 3rd, 2017)

White & Silver Korean teawares

One of my favorite arts from Choeunsook gallery

The apple series by artists Jung-Mi Lee

The size varies from a small jewelry box to a big vase

At the end, they treat you with a nice cup of Korean tea and snacks.

They wrap your purchase in a white traditional clothes, bo-ja-gi with a couple of eucalyptus

Whenever I visit Korea, I always stop by Choeunsook gallery to check out new art works by Korean artists. Since most of them are hand crafted by artists, they can be very pricey. I am glad that I have a limit on my luggage. Otherwise, I would already have been bankrupt. If you are interested in delicate Korean dinnerwares and handcrafts, I would recommend Choeunsook gallery in Seoul
