There are quite a few places for afternoon tea in New York. I adore afternoon tea with girls! Sweet, Savory and warm cup of tea just make me really happy. This time, we went to Mandarin Oriental Hotel for afternoon tea.
There is a nice collection of tea at Mandarin Oriental Hotel. We got Impeiral Early Grey, Imperial Oolong and Mandarin Oolong
Imperial Oolong from Tealeaves was very good. Medium body tastes of oolong with orchid floroal touch was just right, neither too light nor too heavy
I perosnally love oolong because depending on regions and methods, the taste and smell can vary widely. If you noticed, oolong usually is in shape of a small ball and once it is brewed in hot water, it unfolds and returns to its origianal leave shapes
Afternoon tea was started in England. English people usually have a light lunch and between late dinner, they crave for munchies. So around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, they start having scones and some sweets with tea. That is why all the afternoon tea is served in English style. 3:3:3 (3g tea leaves : 3 minutes of infusing : brew 3 times)
Mandarin Oriental New York’s tea collection
They have green tea, white tea, blue (oolong) tea, red (black) tea and special blend for Mandarin Oriental NYC such as Rose of New York and Mandarin Oolong
Yes, please take me to amazing tea journey
jams and creme to be served with scones
Freshly Baked Ginger Scones Served with a Selection of Homemade Jams and Devonshire Cream
Those scones just got out of oven. So warm and moist. Such a perfect match with tea
And Savory comes first
4 different Tea Sandwiches
After Savory comes, then sweet comes after
Tea Pastries, 6 different sweet treats!
Overall, I was satisfied having afternoon tea at Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The ambiance isn’t as nice as other 5 starred hotels since it is served in the lobby lounge, I feel rather hectic. Service wasn’t so attentive since I couldn’t spot the server easily (literally had to search server for bring more hot water). Food was pretty good. I really loved the freshly baked ginger scones. All the savory sandwiches were delicious. I was too full to eat all the sweets so I did not try all of them. They had a good tea selection from green to blend. I personally really enjoyed having imperial oolong with sweet and savory.
